In the years that have passed since Jussi’s death in 1960, I have often been asked to write a book about him. Although I never had any writing ambitions, I accepted long ago that I am an inescapable candidate for Jussi’s biographer; after all, my life and his intertwined for three decades, both onstage and off, through much happiness and trouble, many joys and sorrowsperhaps more of each than we deserved. For a long while I felt unable to relive the memory of those years. Rather than attempt a book, I thought it wiser to let time heal my great sense of loss. With the passing years Jussi’s many admirers prevailed, and at the urging of my children and grandchildren I wrote a very personal account of my recollections of the life we shared Mitt liv med Jussi, my life with Jussi.
