Diana Princess of Wales-A Biography
By: Martin Gitlin
Defining Princess Diana with any sweeping generalizations is an exercise in futility. Those who categorize her solely by her charitable work would be as one-sided in their assessment as others who describe her as a needy soul who searched in vain for true love. Though it remains a pleasant notion to remember Diana for the enormous humanitarian impact she made on the world, it is not realistic to define her solely by those efforts. The princess was an enigmatic figure who led a complex life. What is certain is that Diana’s childhood shaped all that followed. Though her parents loved her, they were often distant and lacking in emotional support. She was mothered and fathered by a series of doting nannies, most of whom she liked, but none who could have possibly replaced a strong emotional bond nurtured by truly committed and adoring parents.
