The Value Motive
By: Paul Kearns
This book has a single, very simple, message. Manage for maximum value. You may think that describes what you are already doing but ‘maximize’ means everyone in your organization has to be thinking ‘maximization’ as well. Even if you are the biggest company in your particular industry or market, and making the best profi ts, these are not necessarily indicators of maximum value. So what are? What does value really mean in management terms? We all value things. The word value is inherently based on a personal perspective. Whether it is your shiny new car or your relationship with your partner or family, the whole concept of value is about your own, personal perceptions. It is also an intrinsically selfi sh word, you will be motivated to pursue the things you value. That is a truism. Joggers will still get up on a cold dark morning to run because they value the exercise and the endorphin rush so much. [download]
