Humor in the workplace is the Rodney Dangerfield of buman resources management. Like the tie tugging, fidgeting comedian, the topic just doesn’t seem to get any respec. In fact, when I suggest that people should add copious amounts of humor to their work lives, many people react with disbelief. “You want us to what?” make work more fun? Lighten up on the job? Mix business with pleasure? But, work isn’t supposed to be fun.” These indignant folks respond. ‘That’s why we call it work. In fact, that’s why work is a four letter word. And you want us to add humor to our work lives? Surely, YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS?”. And when these folks tell me, “You can’t be serious!” abaout idea of putting ommor to work. I cleverly respond with, “You are absolutely right, you can’t be serious!” in fact, that’s the entire point of this book.
